Tour de France 2026 Favourites
The overwhelming favourite for overall victory is once again Tadej Pogačar. The Slovenian UAE Team Emirates rider, reigning world champion and multiple Tour winner, arrives as the undisputed benchmark of the peloton. A route packed with summit finishes — including a double ascent of Alpe d'Huez, Gavarnie, Le Markstein and Orcières-Merlette — looks tailor-made for him.
The big question is whether Jonas Vingegaard can finally rediscover his best form. The Dane was Pogačar's only genuine rival in previous editions, but has had to battle through physical setbacks. If he arrives at the start fully fit, a renewed battle between the two is very much on the cards.
Among the outsiders, three names stand out. Antonio Seixas improves year on year and could spring a surprise on the major climbs. Maxim Lipovitch is one of the most exciting climbing talents around right now. And Remco Evenepoel — should he choose the Tour — has the credentials to be the revelation of this edition, particularly given the two time trials in the programme where he can gain precious time.
A fascinating tactical subplot surrounds the role of Juan Ayuso del Toro within UAE. Will he ride exclusively in support of Pogačar, or will he be given licence to chase his own result? Del Toro has the ability to compete for a top position in the general classification, and if Pogačar builds a commanding lead in the opening weeks, it is easy to imagine the team cutting him loose. One to watch closely.
